President Trump met with President Zelensky one-on-one before Pope Francis’ funeral.
President Donald Trump called on President Vladimir Putin to stop attacking Ukraine and sign the ceasefire deal. President Trump expressed surprise and disappointment over Russia’s attacks against Ukraine after Special Envoy Witkoff met with President Putin in Moscow on Friday.
President Trump stated of the Russian president, “I want him to stop shooting, sit down, and sign the deal. We have the confines of the deal, I believe, and I want him to sign it.”
President Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a day before Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome. He said the meeting went well. He said, “I think he understands the picture, and I think he wants to make a deal.“
“I see him as calmer. I think he understands the picture, and I think he wants to make a deal,” the president continued. “We’ll see what happens over the next few days.”
President Putin declared a 3-day ceasefire May 8-10 to celebrate victory in the Second World War.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump “has made clear he wants to see a permanent cease-fire first, to stop the killing stop the bloodshed.”
